It's all about the fiber!

Finally, I have time after Easter holiday to spend some serious time spinning.  I am really enjoying how effortlessly the fiber flows through my fingers on long draw woolen.  You did a tremendous job carding the fiber.

I got my wool from my friend today and it is absolutely stunning! Thank you so much. I plan to spend the weekend doing test spins and deciding what to do with it. I'm glad we decided to combine the black and white lamb fleeces. I have some CVM and CVM cross lambs coming this year, and I'm looking forward to getting them processed as well.

Shetland

The roving is lovely and easy to spin, with few slubs or guard hairs. The black fiber is not noticeable much in the roving, but looks “salt and pepper” when spun up. Its drafting out beautifully, and you had the starting point marked so it was easy to find.

Shetland Fleece

Started spinning my fleece this afternoon. So enjoyable to spin, nice and smooth, no nibs and no VM. Making a beautiful brown single. Now I can’t wait to ply it and wash and full it. You did good. :) ;)

Shetland, Merino and Merino cross

I had been hoarding 3 very special grand champion fleeces (Shetland, Merino and Merino cross) for a few years and knew they really had to be processed and spun. After having the good fortune to spin some wool roving processed by PJ Doering, owner-operator of Shear Wool Fiber Mill, I knew immediately that my fleeces would be in excellent hands. PJ is a very experienced spinner/weaver and understood exactly what my concerns and spinning goals were. She gave me a tour of her immaculate mill and I was more certain than ever that my fleece would be given the professional care expected. Do I love the resulting roving? Absolutely - so evenly consistent and such a pleasure to spin. Will I ever go to any other mill? Never. Thanks PJ!
